Late Nights

So the third year of me being in college started about a month ago and the school work is starting to pile up. It's almost midnight and I have yet to work on anything. I keep finding ways to distract myself. Those distractions being the following: making a cup of Chai, fixing some jellied toast, getting lost in the blog world and envying their exciting lives.

On a happier note I got to spend some time catching up with a friend of mine that I adore spending time with. After high school, I felt like I should ditch having "best friends" and instead, have just a few good friends, not best. I only say this because I know all friends come with an expiration date and it's easier to keep them nearby but not too close. But I am glad I got to spend time with her. We both parked in different parking decks yet neither of us could remember what floor which meant a lot of walking around in and to parking decks.

I found this online. It makes my heart smile.

Cheer Up Holden

I love to read books. My favorite types of books are the classics. You always hear about the classics and if you've read enough of them, you are able to pick up references in movies and conversations.

Last weekend I managed to find the time to read and finish J.D. Salinger's novel, "The Catcher in the Rye". This novel was published in the early 1950's but gained it's popularity in the 1960's. I found an article online from the NY Times about how "The Catcher" is losing it's popularity with the new generations. I really don't know why. One claim is that this book was "unrelateable" but it is quite the opposite. Holden is scared, young and confused about life and growing up which is something that we all feel or have felt at some time or another.

"Don't ever tell anybody anything. If you do, you start missing everybody."
The Catcher in the Rye, Chapter 26

All I know is that after reading this novel, I really do hope that Holden ended up happy.

Another Year, Another Wrinkle

So today is my birthday! Who knew June 16th would get here so fast? I was planning on spending the day by watching movies, getting dressed up to go buy a Chai Latte (cross fingers it's the cute guy that day), finish watching season 2 of a television show that is ridiculous yet I still watch and end it by studying and working on my Psych 2103 project that's due tomorrow. Yes I know, who takes summer courses? Me of course!

But mum has surprised me and took the day off from work to spend with me. I'm flattered but I don't like making a big deal about birthdays. As long as my parents remember to tell me "Happy Birthday", I'm good. So now I have to figure out something else to do all day.

Also, I really miss my dog. Like a lot. I am sure I sound ridiculous to some but I miss him terribly. And there's no one else I'd rather spend my birthday with than him.

Memorial Day

I hope everyone has a splendid Memorial day! If you know a soldier or see one, tell them thank you! Because freedom is never free. And it costs their lives to allow us to have the ones we have. Any who, it keeps wanting to rain in Georgia so we'll just have to see how much longer the rain will hold up. Have a good day love.

Endless Waves

I found a photograph on the internet of person's bedroom. What I love about their room is the giant canvas of a gloomy ocean that seems to stretch out forever. I like how it is placed on an easel at the end of their bed. Just picture: yourself lying in bed, staring at this canvas. It makes you feel so small yet that anything is possible. This artwork would make me think about a lot of things and I find it very motivating! Here is the room that I'm blabbering about:

And here are the two photographs that I have been able to find so far that are sort of similar. I like this first and second one the best. Though the third allows me to "mentally picture" myself there.

New York, New York

This photo is one of the things that motivates me. Last summer I had the amazing opportunity to spend a month in New York. Granted the month consisted of sleeping on a couch in New Jersey, but I was so grateful to even have that. My days consisted of waking up early and riding the subway from NJ to NY and exploring all day long. This city was even more than I thought it would be. It was wonderful. There were so many different types of people, I always heard various languages being spoken, and something was always going on no matter where you were! I loved how this city was always thriving and there seemed to be a place for everyone. I hope that one day I will be able to move there even if it is only for a couple years. I miss Union Square and The Strand Bookstore so much!

How to Have a Lovely Day

Let us see how many of these we can accomplish today!

Ballerina Buns

I am starting to notice a trend in photos concerning hair, the ballerina bun. It's either tight or loosely wrapped on top of the head and are typically accompanied by full bangs. I'm not too sure if I love this. I only see this look in magazines of high fashion models, tiny female hipsters, or duh, on ballerinas. Would you wear this hair do? I'm on the fence if whether or not I like this but even if I did, I have such a round head it would look weird.

I envy this girl's hair color!

Color in the Lines

I saw the coolest 9 year old boy at Best Buy today. He had a blond mohawk, army green tank top, cut off jeans, and little Crocs with skulls on them. I hope one day I have a son as cool as him! So today's post has been inspired by the little rebel. I have a weakness for really unique, quirky illustration. I'm apologizing in advance because I had saved these images long before I created this blog, thus there being no link. But have no fear! I did save a few of their names which I will post below!

Found this photo on one of my favorite tumblrs

Found this on Threadless Tees

This too, was Threadless.

Supposedly the artist's name is Bitte Ein Kuss.
But I couldn't find anything else when I did a search for her.

Used to be for sale at Fey Handmade.

Also was on Fey Handmade.
She makes white hair look so cool.

Classy felines on ffffound.

You Byun

I believe this one was done by You Byun also.

Found this one a couple years ago.

Lost in Space

Isn't outer space just the coolest? Not only do these images take my breath away, but they remind me of how amazing of a Creator we have.

Bet you didn't know space was tasty too!

Honesty is the Best Policy

It's funny when you realize how hard and/or frightening it is to be honest. Especially when it comes to your inner feelings. When situations like these occur, try to remind yourself that people, as well as yourself, deserve to be told the truth. Even if it's something they're not wanting to hear.

Makes you wonder why we just don't tell that other person exactly how we feel.

Bright Moon, Sing Me to Sleep

It's very late and I should be in bed. I have many things to get done but they won't unless I get some sleep. The moon is bright and lovely behind my window, which inspired me to post a couple photos I had stumbled across over the past few months.
I love everything about this photo.
And yes, Florence+The Machine is a singer. She has such a powerful voice.

I love vintage photographs. Especially ones like these.

You Will Think of Her

"There are a hundred things she has tried to chase away the things she won't remember and that she can't even let herself think about because that's when the birds scream and the worms crawl and somewhere in her mind it's always raining a slow and endless drizzle.

You will hear that she has left the country, that there was a gift she wanted you to have, but it is lost before it reaches you. Late one night the telephone will sign, and a voice that might be hers will say something that you cannot interpret before the connection crackles and is broken.

Several years later, from a taxi, you will see someone in a doorway who looks like her, but she will be gone by the time you persuade the driver to stop. You will never see her again.

Whenever it rains you will think of her. "
Neil Gaiman

Found it here. More quotes of his work are here.

Unfamiliar Places

I saw this postcard on PostSecret last night and I fell in love with it. It is something I have been wanting to do for a very long time. I just hope I don't chicken out either when the opportunity presents itself or I make the choice to do so. I am going to study abroad by hopefully next year to see if I can handle being so far away from home on my own. Cross your fingers I get in!

(I apologize but I can't remember which blog I found this beautiful picture on)

Have you been wanting to move to another country? Or visited a foreign country that you just fell in love with? Do you think that you would actually do it and move? I'm curious, sorry.

A Must Read

I have forgotten about the stack of lonely unread books that are waiting for me to devour as soon as finals are done. While looking through my bookshelf on the top shelf where I keep my favorites, I had the sudden urge to start reading one of my all-time favorite books, "A Prayer for Owen Meany" by John Irving. Irving has written many, many novels. So if you get the chance to read this book and want more of his writing, do not worry, he has many more novels for you.

If you do have the time to pick up a copy of Owen Meany and want more, you can rent the movie "Simon Birch". I didn't understand why the movie was exactly like the book but under a different name until I found my answer here. Apparently John Irving didn't think that this book would be able to turn into a movie so he sold the screen rights to it under the condition that it be released by a different name than his book. The boy they found to play Owen is quite adorable.

Ian Micheal Smith who plays Simon.
Isn't he precious!?

Take a Few Steps Back Now

In class this week we learned about the American artist Chuck Close. His works of art are quite unique. I can only imagine how much time is spend into doing each portrait. His portraits are different from what I have ever seen and they are amazing!

*Note: Due to the large size of the photos, just click on them to view the whole thing.*

Chuck Close taking time to fill in each block for his new portrait.

The way this is painted in a spiral just blows my mind!

Everyone's favorite model and muse- supermodel Kate Moss.

This is such a cool way to have your portrait done!

A close up on the painstaking details.

A self-portrait of Chuck (we're on a first name basis) in his younger days.

It sickens me how good his drawing are. They look just like a printed black and white photograph!

Mondrian Anyone?

Luckily this semester I was able to add the Art Appreciation class to my full load for fun. I must say, this is my favorite class to go to! It's nice to finally learn the names of artists who's paintings I've seen so many times. One in particular that I was relieved to now have a name with a painting is the iconic Piet Mondrian. Doesn't sound familiar? Rest assure you have probably seen his paintings or similar versions of it. A while back (2 or 3 years ago) I saw a pair of awesome shoes on an awesome boy's feet. They were the classic checkered Vans slip on that I had been envying for a while. But theses weren't you typical black and white checks. They were Mondrian checks! So the conclusion of my story is that now you and I know the name of the artist (Piet Mondrian) who's works that we have seen so many times. The end!
Does this look familiar?

The lace up versions of what I had seen.

Who hasn't seen Mondrian's work as a classic shift?

And so it begins!

(Me entering the giant blog world)

Back in December over winter break I discovered the blog world. I knew what a "blog" was but did not realize how many people have them and how cool they were! I ended up spending countless hours over break reading one blog and jumping to the next. Just filling my tiny head with so many ideas and interesting facts! All of this fascination has lead me to finally create my very own stepping stone into the world-wide web! I think the hardest part so far was coming up with not only a nifty name, but a nifty name that wasn't already taken!

What this blog will be about is undecided (as is everything else). Yet I have a feeling it will mainly consist of things along the lines of interior design, fashion, graphic design, and some crafty DIY! Are you getting excited!? Because I sure am!

But I sincerely hope you will start to grow a liking to it and come back for more.
So thank you, and goodnight!
